Joke:  Why do Catholics not read the bible?  Because we have these guys who read it for us and give a book report every week!​

Let's be honest - the above joke does ring true for many Catholics regarding their attitude toward Scripture.  Most Catholics simply do not feel qualified and equipped to read, interpret and apply Sacred Scripture, so we tend to leave that work to the "experts."  But if we are to take seriously the hope of Paul VI that the bible would "be a perpetual source of spiritual life, the chief instrument of handing down Christian doctrine, and the center of all theologicl study," then we Catholics still have a lot of work to do!
